Business Idea: Translations for Tokio Hotel’s lyrics

First of all, so there are no misunderstandings – I hate Tokio Hotel. I don’t like their music, their lyrics make no sense, and the lead singer looks like an “emo girl in a cosmetic boutique”-experiment gone wrong.

Well, luckily tastes are different. Somebody who doesn’t speak German asked me to do him a favor and translate the lyrics of a few songs.
Even though I don’t like them, I did notice that even internationally they got pretty big.

So I was sure that the official US fan club has a well sorted site with all the translations, but nothing. “Okay, so I gotta google it. There must be millions of little girl fan pages with translations”, I thought,  but again NOTHING.
I found some (bad) translations on a few of the gazillion lyric websites  but they often only have a few translated lyrics and aren’t organized.

Either there is no such site or it has the worst ranking. In any case – this should be a piece of cake:

Creating a website that provides organized translations of the (stupid) Tokio Hotel lyrics.

How to set it up

1. Register “tokio-hotel-lyrics.com”, get a lyrics script (you probably need to know some basic PHP).
2. Get all the lyrics of their gay songs.
3. Now comes the tricky part (especially if you aren’t German). How do you get good translations?

• Translate it yourself
• Pay somebody to translate it (risky if you aren’t able to monetize this project)
• Use language forums where people translate texts for free or go to German Tokio Hotel forums and play dumb
• Collect already available translations from other lyric websites

How to promote it

In my opinion most visitor will come from Google. So, how do you get a good ranking?
Well the art of SEO (search engine optimization) is a very complex topic, but as there is no website that has optimized it’s keywords for this project, this shouldn’t be to hard.

Make intensive use of fan clubs and fan forums. Annoy the shit out of Tokio Hotel-Website-Webmasters telling them about your site and hinting to set links to your site.

So once you got your visitors a.k.a. pubescent girls….

How do you make money out of Tokio Hotel’s lyrics?

This is probably the most important part.

Let’s see what our average visitor is probably gonna be like (yes I’m basing this on prejudices):

• Female
• under 20 years
• Tokio Hotel fan
• doesn’t speak German
• bad taste for music

You could use Google AdSense but for better results I’d recommend selling their CDs via Amazon. Or you contact a fan store where they sell posters, shirts and other Tokio Hotel crap and offer them advertising on your website.

You know what, it doesn’t even have to be “Tokio Hotel” related ads, your visitors are an interesting customer group for many online shops.

Of course you won’t become a millionaire, but once you actually spend the time it set up you can lean back and make your money.
